16oz can pours a cloudy orange with a large, fluffy, and pillowy white head. The nose is floral and leads with what I would call a citrus character with underlying earthy and piney hops, rind; the taste follows with a balanced hop profile of citrus, pith, and a hint of that piney character, with little malt character outside of the crackery profile holding up the hops. A good NEIPA.

Pours a thick, hazy, deep amber bordering on copper. Smells divine, an extra sweetness I don't get in other hazies, strong citrus profile evoking mandarin orange . Lightbodied, sweet and dry, Leaves a clean dank taste on the tongue. Tastes a bit piney to balance out the sweet citrus combining for a zesty, distinct flavor.
Consumed with some spicy pho and it set it the hell off.

Review # 1399:

I have not seen this beer before in Idaho. I dig cats, especially fat oranges cats. I had to buy this beer. This beer is a New England IPA. The pour of the beer produced a two-fingered foamy and billowy head. The color of the beer's head is bright white. The retention of the beer's head is exceptional. The head left lacing on the glass as it dissipated. The color of the beer is SRM 6, straw yellow with amber yellow hues. The appearance of the beer is wonderful. I prefer it if they kept this beer cloudy.

The initial aromas in the beer are orange floral, lemons, mangos, and pineapple. Next, I smell toasted crackers, bread, a hint of grapefruit, grass, and bay leaves.

The flavors in the beer are oranges, floral, papaya, lemons, mangos, pineapple, floral esters, toasted crackers, a hint of solvent, bread, a hint of pine, grapefruit, and grass.

The mouthfeel of the beer is slightly astringent and crisp.

The body of the beer is medium, medium carbonation, and fuller finish.

This is what I enjoyed, the NEIPA typical flavors, the balance in the beer, and how easy it is to drink. I enjoy the citrus and tropical flavors in this style of beer. The beer had a bit of bite on the end from the pine and grapefruit. This beer is well made. I was wanting the flavors to burst out on the palate. I felt the beer was more malt heavy, thus muting the beer. None the less I would give this beer a B+

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop in Phoenix on 9-12-19 for $4.99. No canning date but would guess it was in August 2019.

Beer poured a cloudy orange with a very nice white head that has some very good hang time.

Nose is juicy, orange and papaya forward.

Taste follows the nose with notes of papaya, mango, and orange over a medium pale malt base. Finishes with a light pulp bitterness; 5/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth and somewhat refreshing.

Overall a nice NEIPA, glad i was able to try it!

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a pint glass. Had a (mostly) orange color and a super-cloudy consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy somewhat long-lasting head. Solid lacing.

S: A very nice aroma of hops, citrus fruit, tropical fruit, malt, and pine.

T: Tasted of a little bit of malt (mostly in the finish), lots of tropical fruit (pineapple, mango), a fair amount of hops (more than usual), light pine notes, and a ton of citrus fruit (tangerine, in particular). A light, vibrant, and sweet flavor. It's a tad bit hoppier than your typical NE IPA, but definitely still quite sweet. Flavorful and focused.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth and creamy finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A well made, enjoyable beer. Drinkable.

16 oz. Can

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy orangy color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, papaya, mango), piney. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, papaya, mango), piney. Medium body, ABV is hidden very nicely, nice little sweetness, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty nice brew. Nice to see it around here.

16oz can. Poured out a cloudy, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of pineapple, mango and orange peel. Very tropical tasting with bitter sharp bite.

Poured a semi-cloudy orange body with minimal head and lace. There is some tropical fruit, really sweet fruit even, aromas with a touch of "yeast twang" and some leafy, acidic orange notes. Fuller-bodied, smooth mouth feel, almost creamy, with a touch of borderline bubblegum/sugary caramel malt sweetness. Main flavors are mildly acidic hops that leave a mild crispness on the finish thanks to no bitterness and hints of grapefruit and tropical fruits.

From a tall aluminum can this brew is a milky, orange colored liquid. The head is tall and firm. Aroma is fruity...herbal...juicy, and intense. Flavorful, a touch of yeast, and slightly on the sweet side of balanced. Fruit in the flavor. Full in body. Very nice.

16oz can from Beer Table in GCT.

Appearance: Drank from the can. It’s a nice can.

Smell: When opened, bright and citrusy. Lots of hoppy promise. With time that stays present but muted and is surpassed by a caramel sweetness.

Taste: Right off the bat I realize the aroma and words on the can (“New England IPA”) were misleading. No matter, the hop flavor is citrus/stone fruit, well developed, and the aggressive caramel sweetness reminds me of the hoppy American barley wines of old, like Avery’s Hog Heaven and Lagunitas’s excellent Gnarlywine.

What can I say? Rated “to style” this deserves to be knocked a bit, but the flavor is *good*.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Oily and slick. Touch undercarbed I would say. Even with the malty flavor I want this to be dryer and cleaner.

Overall: As a hot shot “juicy NE IPA” that I overpaid for at Grand Central this is a complete miss, but I enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

Autocorrect, spell check and poetic waxing be damned. The clever brewers of Fat Orange Cat know exactly what's going on in the beer review community. With no more secrets left to sell, this cat is clearly out of the bag.

Pouring a heavily hazed golden orange and with a gentle pastel matte sheen, Write Drunk Edit Sober glows with a moderate and familiar New England styled IPA austere. As the usual suspects of citrus, tropical fruit and herbacious grasses swoon the nose, the Citra, Mosaic and El Dorado character is nearly evident to the nose. Sweet with pastry and cereal, the malt complex is rounded with shortcake, light honey and a faint cashew toasted taste.

With the malt sweetness and starchy textures relaxing on the middle palate, the hops really come out and play. With a jot of branch ripe tangerine and mango from Citra, the tangy succulence of passionfruit, gooseberry and golden papaya of Mosaic and the winey grapefruit character of El Dorado prove to be a three headed monster of hops. All three trend spicy with a peppery bitter resin effect on the late palate with strong suggestions of botanical gin, matcha tea and a curious drift of cannabis, chive and geranium.

Medium bodied, the hazy IPA is on a decidedly drying track putting it slightly in the more classic West Coast mantra however its fruit profile and soft malt linger helps with the balance of an ale in the New England vein. A medium long linger of bitterness outlasts any breadiness, graininess or malt sweetness for an ale that echoes with tropical fruit rind, botanicals and pepper.

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but was just released. Pours very hazy/cloudy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, watermelon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, watermelon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, watermelon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/grainy, lightly sticky, and slightly lingering resinous/rindy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is an incredible NEIPA! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt flavors; extremely smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Amazingly soft feel. Amazing Citra, Mosaic, El Dorado profile. Extremely juicy, and lightly dank/earthy hop complexity; with a perfectly balanced wheat/oat/malt backbone. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing spot on style example.
