Just like a banana split in a beer glass, Fat Orange Cat proves to us once and all that we don't have to give up on our childhood taste to be an adult. Moderate in alcohol content and full of tangy, herbal and fruity flavor, grownups have never had it so good!
Their Strawberry and Banana version of Walkabout gets going with a turbid and silted pour of golds and taupes. As an ivory lather tops off the glass, Its striking scent of tropical fruit and berry set the tone with a backdrop of vanilla spice and tangy juiciness never far behind. Sweet on the early palate, a taste of shortcake, heavy cream and cereal continue the confectioner's and creamery character flowing.
Juicy with those obvious banana and strawberry flavors, the smoothie-type beer also hosts complementary fruit flavors of orange, pineapple, passionfruit, mango and apricot in a fruit-filled taste of fruit punch, fruit cocktail and banana split once more. A mild herbal finish of basil, verbena, sassafras and tea come with a racy tartness that allows for a refreshing late taste and a much needed offset of the fruit and pastry sweetness.
Full bodied for sour ale, the beer finishes juicy and tart with a medium length aftertaste of banana split and cidery tanginess in aftertaste. Maybe I do want to be a grownup after all.
