a smart and well refined beer from these guys, i was impressed with this one, and my wife really liked it to, nice to come into a few cans from these guys in recent travels. funny art on the can. a gose done with von trapp which is cool, apricots and salt, both apparently from austria, which is also clever. a touch of an orange hue to this, hazy but not messy, and holding an almost inch of creamy and thick white head. the nose is somewhat minimal compared to expectations, even at temperature, its reserved, wheaty, mineral forward, not sweet or fruity or sour or forced, delicate, especially for these guys, all their beers are so bold and distinct, perhaps borrowing a bit from von trapp on this one, more understated. the flavor is a surprise then, juicy real apricot up front, still fermented to dry, but popping and juicy, love the organic nature of this, how it blends with the pale cereal malt, and how the tang of the yeast and the gentle salt enhance it, really dry but really flavorful too, dialed in as far as balance goes, and its a little rustic and funky while still seeming very well refined. the fruit and the salt are great, peak ripeness and very earthy overall, and it seems almost lagered, crisp for the style, drinkable for being just a little fuller bodied, and overall extremely interesting for starting out mild, light and clean citric tartness late, impressive. great collaboration, i hope to snag another can of this at some point. would love to see this same base done with things like strawberry, lychee, and melon, it seems built for being a fruit series. bravo!

A: hazy; deep gold in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a moderate collar; very little lacing;
S: more funk than fruit; apricot and salt in the background;
T: virtually no apricot; mild tartness throughout; salt is noticeable, but subtle;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;
O: not bad, but considering the breweries involved, this was disappointing;

16oz can. Poured out a cloudy, golden yellow color with a small, fizzy, white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of apricot, lemon, wheat and sea salt. Sweet apricot and peach taste with salt and some wheat.

Teamin up with the brewers of von Trappe, Fat Orange Cat devises a sour apricot ale that's enough to make you grow whiskers on your face.
But Whiskers on Kittens instead pours a lemony orange hue and embedded inside of a pale dense haze. As the tangy and tantalizing scent of stone fruit, citrus, cider, tropical fruit, vinous fruit, burlap and berry all align on the nose, the taste is soothingly fruity with saltwater taffy, shortcake and sourdough.
As the sweetness and breadiness dissipates, the fruit flavors of apricot apply a bold overlay of fruit which extends into the realm on mango, tangerine and peach. Along with the underlying and natural gose sourness of lemon, lime, green apple, sour white grape and gooseberry apply a sharp acidity to the middle palate, the ale trails into a rounded fruitiness os sherbet and bellini with just a tough of Australian salt salinity.
Medium bodied and fuller than traditional gose the ale finishes brisk and briney with a tropical accented fruit cocktail falling away into a quick, juicy and sour afterglow.
