Just like a grandma's fruit cobbler in a beer glass, Fat Orange Cat proves to us that we don't have to give up on our childhood taste to be an beer loving adult. Moderate in alcohol content and full of tangy, pastry and fruity flavor, grownups have never had it so good!
Their Walkabout with Apple, Strawberry, Blueberry and Rhubarb gets going with a muddy pour of burgundy and rust. As an spritzy froth tops off the glass, Its striking scent of orchard fruit and berry set the tone with a backdrop of vanilla, spice pastry tarte and tangy juiciness never far behind. Sweet on the early palate, a taste of cobbler, vanilla and cereal continue the bakery and creamery character flowing.
Juicy with those obvious apple and strawberry flavors, the smoothie-type beer also hosts complementary fruit flavors of lemon, lime, passionfruit, gooseberry and dark berry in a fruit-filled taste of fruit preserves, pie filling and pop tart once more. A mildly spiced finish of pie spices and tea come with a racy tartness that allows for a refreshing late taste and a much needed offset of the fruit and pastry sweetness.
Full bodied for sour ale, the beer finishes juicy and tart with a medium length aftertaste of banana split and cidery tanginess in aftertaste. Maybe I do want to be a grownup after all.
