Minimal head production. Otherwise, a very attractive ebony brew.
Aroma implies darn near everything promised by the label: chili peppers, cinnamon, and a massive stout base, with hints of chocolate, vanilla, and maple syrup. A minor criticism is that if the focus on this one is maple doughnut, the maple doesn't come through nearly as strongly as the chilies and cinnamon. Maple and vanilla do come through stronger as the beer warms.
On the palate, this beer immediately delivers, with a big, Decadent (see what I did there), sweet note right up front. Maple, chocolate, dough, followed by cola, cinnamon, and a hint of the peppers. The cinnamon combined with the yeast and malt base give an impression of apple pie (or apple doughnuts) on the back half. Absolutely delicious, and without question a dessert beer.
I'm not sure why you would add chili peppers to a doughnut-inspired beer, but if you are going to do so, I'd appreciate if they stood out quite a bit more. I know FOC can do so, given the Jalapeno Jack beers. Still, if the overall goal was to replicate a maple glazed doughnut in a glass, I think they absolutely crushed it.
