Surprisingly, easy drinking for 9% ABV. Fairly non-descript on the nose. For me, most high ABV IPAs tend to verge on a medicinal, alcohol type note that washes away the subtler floral hop elements and this beer is unfortunately no exception. it’s giving you a pretty hefty body that sort of accentuates an almost coconutty fattiness and a voluminous mouth feel. It finishes sort of dry, which is good for a beer that has so much alcohol, but nothing is really jumping out on the palate for me. Some sugariness but not overly sweet. Some pineapple. It’s doing a great job of not falling victim to the high ABV pitfalls of overt sweetness and booziness… but it’s drinking as sort of a cloudy, generic slug of NEIPA with nothing to make me remember it by… and at that whopping 9% abv, there’s a good chance I might not remember drinking it at all. Not my favorite FOC release (i’m partial to single IPAs generally) but certainly very fresh and enjoyable… dare I say “crushable” for an imperial.
