16 ounce can, S 5 8 stamped on the bottom of the can so I'm not going to try and figure out if that's some kind of date code or not. Thanks to Brutaltruth for this! Served in a chalice, the beer pours dark brown with about an inch and a half tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark bread, toffee, nuts, and some chocolate. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's the addition of some caramel and earthiness. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's coating and has a moderate amount of carbonation. Thought this was a good overall brew, certainly worth a try if you get the chance!

Dark brown brew with mimimal foam dissipating immediately. Aroma of old dishrag along with a firecracker broken open. Taste is utterly bitter. Just when I think I have had the most degraded excuse for a beer, along comes another to plumb even those depths. This one I would call disgusting. There is some hint of canned peaches along with canned corn and charerd vegetables I wonder if this is what burnt mattress stuffing tastes like. Call it muddy water with aspirin. This should teach me finally to check for the dreaded words on the label: Distributed by Twelve Percent. And also to avoid that coven of witches in North Haven, CT.

Stepping out from their trendy ways, Fat Orange Cat shows that they can be classy too.
Taking on the classic brown ale style, Cat-o-Lantern hits the glass with a medium brown, slightly bronze hue before constructing a frothy and arid cap. As a familiar scent of chocolate, caramel, toast and nuttiness swoons the nose, the first sip leans in with caramel, toffee and toasty bread crust. Nuttiness of pecan rises with mild suggestions of chocolate and coffee before a broad and woodsy bitterness takes hold for balance and dryness.
Medium bodied, cleanly malty and finishing malty-dry, the brown ale is somewhere between more English varieties and American ones for a nice blend carved from both worlds.

Brown ale or black IPA, I lean more towards labeling this a black ipa. Nice malty nose. Color is black with a tan head. taste was malty, piney and delicious. Great bitterness.

The pour is umber brown. The taste is rich roasted malt, toasted brown bread, dark chocolate, caramel, & pecans. Moreover, the 8% abv is well hidden. Cheers! B

On tap at River Road Tavern with friends. Brown color with a decent sized frothy tan head that persists. Chocolate and caramel maltiness with bits of earth to counter, decent brew.

From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This excellent brown ale pours a muddled
dark brwon with a moderate head of khaki foam that settles to a thin ring,
light dusty layer, and displays some light lacing. Nose of dark roasted malt,
dark bakers chocolate, and caramel malts....not many dimensions but the
ones there are nice. Flavors pack it in over the nose with dark roasted malts,
dark raisin bread, dark chocolate, and caramel dashed with some toffee.
Mouth feel is medium, medium light carbonation, smooth, and finishing
with a nicely balanced sweet and roasted lightly bitter malt note.
Overall, one of the best brown ales I have had in ages.
Cheers

A: opaque; cola brown in color; a 1 finger finely pored tan head that receded to a wispy cap with a moderate, tight collar; OK lacing;
S: well roasted grain with a hint of bittersweet chocolate;
T: follows the nose from start to finish with a bit more chocolate character; a nice balance between sweetness and bitterness;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish; alcohol is barely noticeable;
O: nicely done;
