Deep brown color with light passing through the center of glass. Appears to be clear. Excellent lasting head which provides a coating on the glass after every sip.

Despite the darker color, this beer smells closest to a Czech pilsner with a light flowery hop nose. There's light malt but without any of the toasty notes i would expect. Attractive if surprising.

The taste comes more in line with the predominant flavor being a thin, semisweet chocolate flavor. Thinner body with a slightly elevated carbonation level -- okay for the style. The finish does become more bitter with the hop being stronger than the coffee presence.

Serving: Can
Canned: Jul-31-2019 (Consumed Sep-6)

A:
Ruby-mahogany clear that looks black, billowing tan head that slowly drops, rings of concentric lacing. (4.25)

S:
Sweet malt layers, candied nuts with a hint of spicy grain and faint dark fruits. (4)

T:
Big, soft malty sweetness. Nuts, toast and honey, syrup, very very light euro hop bite at the very end. (4.25)

M:
Big, bold, moderate carbonation, well-hidden alcohol, drinkable despite its heft, ABV and sweetness. (4.25)

O:
This is very nice.
Nice ruby-purple-ebony beer with a fairly good head. Overall, it is not as sweet or thick as some. Toasty, dark bread, the usual medium maillard flavors, nutty, a little grainy and the slightest harsh catch at the finish (in both the aroma and flavor). Additionally, a little less complex than some but very good still. Excellent beer and always nice to have a well-made Doppelbock, fresh, in a can from the US! (4.25)

On tap at the brewery. Pours a chesnutty dark brown with an inch of creamy head. Lots of lacing. The aroma is some earth, nuts, dark fruits, Coke and some coffee. The taste is much like the aroma. A bit more coffee and earth than in the nose. Nutty finish with some dark bread crusts. Moderate amount of alcohol.

From a 16oz can, dated 07/31/19. Served in a tulip.

Pours a burnt caramel color, nearly opaque in the glass, with a half finger or so of soft beige suds. Retention is OK, leaving a foamy ring and a little slippery lacing.

A fairly faint nose, not strong but pleasant. I’m having a hard time picking out what I’m smelling - it’s not quite breadcrust and it’s not quite coffee, and it’s sort of sweet and rank, both at the same time. Anyway, never mind; I like it.

Taste is mildly creamy-sweet, mocha java, Coca Cola and bread crust. There’s some roasty, nutty bitterness and a really nice, tongue-coating, almost peppermint-like sharpness that lingers long after the sip.

Feel is smooth and creamy, medium-plus bodied with ample but gentle carbonation.

Overall, a fine and tasty, satisfying and substantial beverage. Only mildly sweet and with a surprisingly assertive bitter edge. It’s not what I drove all the way to Connecticut for but I’m damn happy I picked up a few cans of it.

Sampling a lightly chilled can that I picked up at the brewery recently. I am pouring into a snifter for the sampling.
The beer pours a beautiful clear and bright chestnut color with a bit of ruby highlighting. A fluffy khaki colored head of 1 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy surface layer as I drink the beer. Eventually settles to a wispy cloud like covering.
the aroma is grainy malt with some caramel and toasted grains mixing with a little bit of a nutty character too. I dont get any hint of the 7% ABV and not really any hop nose either.
First sip reveals an average body with slightly syrupy texture but mostly clean and crisp with fine spacious carbonation. This beer drinks easy.
Flavor is a bit of sweet brown sugar and a lot of toasted notes and a multi grain bread or sunflower seed quality to it. Roasted flavor lingers and is almost chocolatey but not sweet. the ABV is well hidden and the hops dont make much of a presence here either. This is a tasty brew and nicely done for the style. Im glad I bought several more cans of this one!
