English-style pub ales are a unique joy - simple but flavorful, memorable or perfectly forgettable depending on the mood. Tiddly is our take on a Dark Mild, a style we think hits at that dichotomy particularly well - you could certainly savor them but they’re small beers we find are best enjoyed a couple at a time and without much fuss.

Darker brown color where bright light does pass along the edge. Appears to be clear. Lasting beige head that initially looks like a nitro pour. It fades quickly, though, leaving smaller spots from the fine film of bubbles.

Deep roasted toffee smell. Some candied sugar with a touch of very dark (read: nearly burnt) caramels. Melted brown sugar.

Far drier than the smell, almost coffee-like. Think Baker’s chocolate. The body is thin and the carbonation elevated—appropriately for the style. There’s a pleasant bitterness at the swallow which seems to be equal parts burnt malt and biting hop.

On tap at Sabatinis in Exeter pa early this evening.

Dark brown body with delightful ruby highlights. Off white head shrinks to a ring and covering. Specks of lacing. Aroma is nutty and malty with a hint of coffee. On tasting, the roast is a tad above my personal preference, but a clean and easy drink. The finish is quite drying, which leaves a bitter coffee taste.

Overall, always happy to find a well put together English Mild on tap.

Pours dark chestnut brown, off white nitro head; despite the nitro this one is a tad more bubbly in appearance as opposed to creamy looking microbubbles, gets more bubbly as it settles and it loses most of its nitro appearance.

The nose is mostly toast forward, there is some roastiness as well; milk duds, very light coffee notes that lean earthy in quality, dry leaves.

Taste lightly browned toast, some nuttiness; the finish is a combination of very faint coffee and black tea; ratio of black tea wins out, then finishes with some milk chocolate.

Body is light, low carbonation gives it a soft smooth feel; mostly dry, clean, nice little touch of bitterness to round it out.

This review is a split between on draft, on nitro at the brewery and 45 minutes later, from a 16oz can dated 11/15/23 at home.
The body is dark, almost black, but a reddish glow appears in a small area where light can intervene. On draft the head is about a half inch of fine foam. The can version has a less impressive foam, maybe a quarter inch and fading fast.
The aroma is the same on both samples, chocolate malt and dark coffee come to mind.
The taste is bitter and dry and I love it. There is an ever so slight hint of sweetness half way through a mouth full, but the finish is like you swallowed one of those descant bags that say "do not eat".
Carbonation is appropriate and the overall viscosity is light.
Overall, I really really enjoyed this.
