Our rotating, single-hop Pale Ale highlights a unique hop in each batch and more often than not, that means a varietal yet to be fully brought to market. As part of our participation in the Freestyle Hops Research Collective we recently had an opportunity to preview a handful of advanced experimental hop varieties. At the table one jumped out at us immediately and distinctly - that was Manilita and we instantly expressed our interest and excitement to our friends in New Zealand. Still early in its development we were thankful to bring in any quantity but this time it was just enough to make a scaled down batch. There’s a pome fruit creaminess at the base but it pops with mango, papaya, citrus high notes as well.

10/11/23 can from the brewery in Salem, CT. Pours a dark yellow with murky haze, finger of creamy white head, nice lacing; smell is tropical fruit with mango, papaya, pineapple, and melon, hints of mild dank grass, and yellow cake; taste follows with tropical fruit sorbet, ripe mango, papaya, cantaloupe, overripe pineapple, hints of yellow cake and mild grass and peach skin on the finish; feel is medium bodied, creamy carbonation, dry finish. A thick and sticky tropical fruit cake crusher.
