I am sampling a fresh bottle of this beer, date stamp is 2025 Batch 8. I do believe this beer changes recipes each vintage so new year = new beer!
I am pouring at cellar temp into my trusty snifter. The beer has been in my cellar since purchase from the brewery a few weeks ago.
The beer pours jet black into my glass with absolutely no light passing through the glass. A fizzy brown head foams up about .5 cm and fades to nothing soon after the pour. NO lattice forms on swirls, but there are legs like a glass of merlot.
Aroma on this beer is malt driven and a little boozy. I get fudge brownie, and some dark fruit mixing with fusol booze and a little pipe tobacco. No hop character on the nose of this beer. Im not sure of the spices added as they arent listed on label, but I m not getting anything specific behind the malt and booze.
First sip reveals a medium body with slightly oily mouthfeel that does coat my palate on each sip. Carbonation is very fine and fairly gentle, with only a slight tingle across my palate.
Flavor is similar to the nose, with dark fudge and some boozy dark liquor with dark fruit as well. Raisins and figs in the middle, some bourbon and a little charred wood on the finish. Booze is a little warming on the finish with only a little peppery bite. But in general this sipping level beer drinks pretty easy. I do wonder what spices were added as Im not picking up anything specific. But I do really enjoy this beer and Im glad to have purchased this bottle.

500ml bottle served in my Allagash chalice. Pours an inky black with a loose, mocha-colored head that quickly disperses into a tight band around the shoulders. Nose expresses notes of rich chocolate, ethanol, vanilla and spices (perhaps cinnamon and all-spice). Taste is amazing - chocoalte and caramel fudge with just a kiss of spice at the finish; however, a little ethanol bitterness at the very end evens it out.. Figs/dates peak out in the middle but don’t linger for long. Mouthfeel is darn near perfect. Medium-full in body with an oily/silky texture and just enough carbonation to keep the flavors from being cloying. Wow! This year’s Witch Meadow Black is amazing and drinking great fresh.
