Upcoast begins with a grist of Maine-grown, floor-malted barley from Blue Ox Malthouse along with (somewhat uncharacteristically for the style) heirloom dent corn. The latter requires an additional cereal mash step but lends a subtle impression of corn sweetness and light body to the beer. That framework largely serves to deliver the cleanest possible expression of the hops to come. On the hot side, the beer receives a blend of domestic and foreign varieties, whole leaf and pellets - each building complexity and layers of flavor. Finally, Upcoast was dry-hopped with American-grown Citra and Krush along with New Zealand-grown Manilita. Over its weeks of lagering, our own anticipation evolved from curiosity to excitement - now that it’s safely in package, we’re thrilled to share the result. If you haven’t tried a West Coast Pils yet, we encourage you to give it a try.
