Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with no freshness dates. Served in an oversized wine glass.
Appearance: Thin, half finger, light tan head that leaves a good foam layer until the end. Very dark reddish brown, almost black.
Smell: Malty sweetness, ripe plums, brown sugar.
Taste: The malt, prunes and brown sugar notes make for a very sweet flavor profile. It's rounded off by a faint smokiness and an alcohol undertone. It gets sweeter as it warms.
Mouthfeel: Silky smooth, oily, full bodied with low carbonation.
Overall: A decent beer, but nothing out of this world. The fact that it smells and tastes very sweet but is easy to drink and not cloying is an achievement.
