Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle with no dates. Served in a Samuel Adams pint glass.
Appearance: It develops a creamy, two finger, tan colored head that leaves some patchy lacing. It's pure black.
Smell: The aroma is not that strong but it's very pleasant. There's cinnamon and nutmeg with a hint of black coffee and pine resin in the background.
Taste: It has strong spice notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. It finishes with a warm, brown sugar and caramel malt sweetness
Mouthfeel: It's thick, full bodied and a bit oily but the high carbonation takes away from the creaminess and smoothness. It would have had a better texture if it was less carbonated.
Overall: The aromas are typical of the holidays and the taste profile is perfect for sipping slowly by the fireplace on a cold, winter night. It's a shame the crisp, high carbonation bite is so strong. Otherwise, it would have been an almost perfect fall-winter beer.
