Sort of a Marzen, once was a lager, certainly a riddle. This beer has a pronounced sweet, malty base teeter tottering with a touch of floral, noble hops. The maltiness goes on to perform a clown ballet with a large infusion of real vanilla beans resulting in a flavour reminiscent of birthday cake. A clean, crisp fermentation makes this a light drinking session and/or dessert beer ideal for a patio, apres dinner, or a bouncy castle. Disclaimer: no clowns were harmed in the brewing of Cakeface.

Pours a just slightly less than clear orange amber colour with a couple fingers of tawny coloured creamy head. Laces nicely.
The aroma hits with tons of biscuit and vanilla - by power of suggestion (?) smells of birthday cake ice cream; notes of caramel and a touch of a floral hop scent.
Taste is malty sweet - bready, caramel, toffee, and a good smack of vanilla but at back an earthy, leafy hop bitterness comes through.
Medium mouthfeel on average carbonation with a bittersweet finishing kick. Vanilla is the star of this show.

12oz glass at Town Square Brewing, their current guest tap. I don't think that I've ever had an offering directly from this particular Cowtown brewery.
This beer appears a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with a thin cap of wispy and bubbly off-white head, which leaves a few instances of streaky coral reef lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, vanilla cookies, a touch of old-school yeastiness, some mild apple and pear fruity notes, and very faint earthy, leafy, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is bready and grainy cereal malt, real vanilla extract, some muddled pome fruitiness, and more well understated earthy, musty, and dead grassy hoppiness.
The carbonation is average in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with the vanilla adding a gentle layer of creaminess to the whole affair. It finishes off-dry, the vanilla-accented malt carrying on dancing like nobody else was watching.
Overall - this is exactly what it proclaims to be, a malty lager, further sugared-up by the adjunct ingredient. It's a tad simple, but flavourful enough, especially if you're into that current trend of 'pastry' or 'cake' brews. Right, Petra?

Nice beer tried it as a part of the sampler. Pours clear with a gorgeous color. Vanilla is noticeable on the smell. I was a little hesitant on what to expect with the claim that it tasted like birthday cake but was pleasantly surprised. It does remind me of a vanilla birthday cake. Had a nice mouth feel and good balance. Will drink it again
