1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store - I do appreciate the name of this one.
This beer pours a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly eggshell white head, which leaves some random snow rime lace around the glass as it quickly recedes.
It smells of resinous pine needles, some hard water flintiness, gritty and grainy cereal malt, indistinct domestic citrus rind, and further leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, some orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus peel, a faint earthy yeastiness, some damp minerality, and more understated leafy, musty, and piney hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a minor clamminess evolving as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the plain-Jane malt and waning hops in a lingering pas-de-deux.
Overall - yeah, this indeed must be the IPA, but it could be a whole hell of a lot better. It feels like they're just phoning it in, or trying not to offend yer typical mouth-breathing beer drinker. At any rate, it's easy enough to put back, but not something that I would actively seek out next time I'm down in the ol' Cowtown.
