Small place in a small town, but big flavors in their beers. The server was very pleasant and patient with my many questions. I was pleasantly surprised and glad I stopped.

Excellent IPA brewing; a leader in craft brewing IMHO. Nice small town brewery; great bar atmosphere.

This place was incredible—a real surprise. No food other than some random snacks, but there was a food truck outside when I went and it was excellent. Really surprised by the quality of IPAs, the porter and sours were good. Every beer I had was above average, and many were excellent. No flights, but you can get pours in 10oz or 14oz and they do fill growlers. It's a small space, but plenty of room to hang out and lots of shelves/tables to place your beverage.

My girlfriend and I went into the place in our second night in Canaan Valley. She got the Six Legged Frog IPA, I got the Bewildered Hippie IPA. Both were truly incredible beers. Six Legged Frog was one of the more unique, impressive beers that I've found in the state. The bartender was also very welcoming, handing us a beer menu that gave 3-4 sentences on each beer that they have on tap. We didn't sit at the bar, but I noticed that they lined the bar with bowls of pretzels, very simple but helpful touch when putting out such flavorful beers. I also enjoyed the decor of the bar, as well as the picture that gave a quick explanation of why the place is called Stumptown. The entire place had a relaxed, welcoming vibe to it.

After we finished the IPAs, we split a Tip Top Breakfast Stout, and this is the beer that I'd suggest to anyone anywhere that enjoys breakfast stouts. They brew it in collaboration with Tip Top Coffee a local coffee place in the next town, Thomas. Delicious. My girlfriend and I both were very surprised that we had not seen these beers in Morgantown, but after asking the bartender found that they'd be coming in the next couple months. Very exciting! Highly recommended to anyone traveling to Canaan Valley, the only WV brewery I've found to hold a candle to Chestnut Brew Works.
