473ml can - thanks again to Tracey, the Banded Peak rep in these parts. A brew 'crafted by the women at Banded Peak', and dubbed an 'Uberweizen'. You go girls - and oddly enough, the name on this one isn't a play on the Beatles.

This beer pours a cloudy, medium apricot amber colour, with four plus-size fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat bubbly ecru head, which leaves some sparse and random paramecia lace around the glass as it slowly decides to blow off.

It smells of bready and grainy cereal malt, a further spicy wheatiness, innocuous clove, wet banana chips, a hint of estery yeast, and some plain leafy, musty, and floral noble hoppiness. The taste is grainy and crackery wheat malt, a hint of not-quite-ripe orange flesh, banana peel (not that I've actually eaten one, but you get the idea), yeasty lees, a mixed earthy spiciness, and more understated musky, weedy, and dead floral hop bitters.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-pleasing frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and fairly smooth, with a nice airy creaminess consistent throughout the whole. It finishes off-dry, but with a simmering alcohol edginess that takes things down a few welcome notches.

Overall - a fairly respectable version of the style, with the 'uber' German superlative appropriate AF. The ABV teases the standard upper limits, but doesn't really show its hand in the flavour. And I have no idea what they mean by 'speck-out' in the marketing blurb (I suspect it has something to do with aviation), but I aim to find out next time I cross paths with the aforementioned rep.
