Amalgam Underground Breakfast is a real premium stout and is best served chilled to 4C. Imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for 14 months with extended ageing on Madagascar vanilla beans, bourbon barrel–aged maple syrup and Dragon Fly Coffee Roasters’ Terre Celesti whole bean coffee. This is a sweet and very strong vanilla latte nose that leads into a less sweet, but a clean, very satisfying flavour. It is truly a real dessert beer, but well executed and crisp for the level of residual sugar. Having tried over 100 different coffee stouts in different countries, my favourite is still, Amalgam Underground Breakfast, followed by J Wakefield Brewery Adjunctron Project: Yellow Lion. A very close call between the two stouts.
