Almost a meal in itself. Dark roasty beer with a silky smooth finish, a great after dinner sipper.

From tasting notes 10/19/17
Had on-tap at Mackinaw Brewing in Traverse City, MI
Appearance - served up in a pint, dark cola brown with a a thin ring of suds encircling the edge. Not much for lacing; a few dozen minuscule dots, most of which slide back into the drink.
Smell - Aroma is earthy with a hint of leaf and a milk chocolate undertone. Just a trace of roast.
Taste - More flavor than the nose leads on. Prominent chocolate flavor sandwiched between mild roast and an earthy and leafy hop flavor that adds nice complexity, balance and a unique, complimentary character to the brew. Finish lingers with mild chocolate sweetness and that fresh leafiness.
Mouthfeel - On the fuller side of medium bodied with light, bitey carbonation. Slick, silky texture makes this an easy drinker with a touch of dryness in the finish.
Overall - A pretty good oatmeal stout that displays a unique flavor profile and a refreshing finish. My only complaint would be the lack of roast, but most oatmeal stouts lack that.

One of the beers that started us onto craft beer 20 years ago. At the time, it was the only dark beer available in TC. A bit of a light feel for an oatmeal stout but still has all the basic flavors you'd expect. I still go to it when the seasonals don't appeal to me.

On tap at Traverse City location.
L: Jet black, moderate tan head
S: Vanilla, roasted malt
T: Artificial vanilla flavor, strong alcohol flavor despite moderate ABV, coffee
F: Big drawback of this beer is the harsh, not smooth, mouthfeel. Appropriately carbonated.
O: Very disappointing attempt at an oatmeal stout. Scrap this one and try again.
