I pint of this was served to me with a 2 inch thick head that quickly disappeared leaving hardly any retention or lacing. The aroma was caramel, and sweet malts. The taste started out with some caramel, toffee, butterscotch, and a little smoke flavor and some alcohol. The mouthfeel was a sticky soft feel to the palate. Overall, a decent scottish ale that had good flavor, but the smokiness was not as strong as I have tasted in other scotch ales.
Since this has a milder flavor than other scottish ales I have tasted I do think this would be a good beer to introduce your friends to this style of beer whenever it is available and you are in Traverse City, Michigan.

I wasn't sure whether this should be called an Export style Scottish Ale or a Light Scottish Ale, but judging by it's color and strong caramel aroma, I thought it more proper to call it an Export. At any rate, this beer is clear light amber with a thin beige head and medium-low carbonation. Lots of pink bubblegum, butterscotch, and toffee notes in the aroma, with no perceivable hops. There is a strong bubblegum and butterscotch taste, but with a very perceptable sweet extract "tang" to it. Fusel alcohols are intense, and moderately high alcohol content give it an obtrusive peppery bite which becomes more unpleasant as it warms. No perceptable smoke character, with a slight buttery, grainy finish. Cloying, soft mouthfeel. Very low on drinkability owing to the intense fusel alcohols, extract tang, and high ABV content.
