Copenhagen 19/8 2024. 47,3 cl can from Kihoskh, Sønder Boulevard, Kbh. V. Purple can with a hovering triangle equipped with an eye and waterfalls. Very psychedelic.

Pours opaque hazy, golden yellow with a mid-sized, frothy white head. Settles as a thin but unbroken layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.

Aroma is fairly intense with a sweet odor of tropical fruits mingling with zesty citrus fruit. Sweet peach and pineapple. Touch of resin and pine tree. Grapefruit and lemon.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, smooth, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly stronger citric bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a light sweet undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry.

Pleasant, well-balanced and smooth.

 

 

 

So, I had this beer twice from the same batch and was really amazed by the difference. In my initial review I said I would give it some time to see if it came together and, as a man of my word, I did. And it did. I have had beers (always NEIPAs) that I thought were still too green before and had come to the conclusion that around two weeks post packaging was kind of a sweet spot, but the night and day difference on this one blew me away. You can take this as a PSA or a correction of my review or two reviews of the same beer or whatever. I am leaving my original review (two days in the can) at the bottom with the scores I gave it then, and including my updated impressions below. The official scores now reflect the two-week-old beer; and while many of my impressions from the first review were the same, their presence and cohesion were very much improved. The beer as a whole was noticeably better.

While I am here on my soapbox, I do understand why BBC does this, it definitely helps them deal with the distribution problem and people's freshness expectations. On the other hand, it is funny to see people clamor for freshness, when what I experienced here was the difference between a beer verging on mediocre and a beer verging on great. All it took was waiting a week or so. Patience is a virtue.

Pours cloudy gold with a creamy finger of head that gradually drops to a film leaving minimal lacing. Fresh, bright fruity nose. Rotten peaches and oranges, some citrus oil bite. The flavor is this same combo with a bright lime skin bitter-tartness and subdued tropical sweetness. The mouthfeel is slightly better but still the low point: a little creamer/less harsh than in the too-fresh can but still kind of prickly for the style.
Overall this is a much improved beer. It was much more along the lines of what I was expecting, fruitier, more pleasant tasting/feeling, lessened onion and cleaner hop aromas. The absolute proof for me though is in the look of it. Side-by-side you wouldn't know it was the same beer as the über-fresh can. Very nice, glad I waited.

It pours a murky goldish with a brief, small beige head. No retention; no lacing. (3.25)

Follows the nose. Nectarine, grass, touch of orange. (3.75)

Fizzy, a little chalky. Neither to style nor particularly amazing regardless. (3.25)

O:
An okay beer.
This one is by no means bad but definitely fails to stand out in my opinion. Pours looking all right. No real head. The aroma is a little stably with some stonefruit. Flavor follows though a little fruitier. It is too fizzy and thin feeling. Not awful, but could definitely use some tweaking. I have another can and I will try to hold onto it to see if maybe this one was too green. Here's hopin'. (3.5)

Look is a hazy orange gold. Thin head breaks leaving a small collar. Nose is citrusy, orange and tangerine, along with other tropicals. Taste is similar to the nose, with pulpy juice coming out first. Then I get a slight grassy flavor. Feel is remarkably light, with good carbonation. Finish is citrusy and fruity.

A nice beer, hits all the right spots.

Can: Poured a hazy yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tropical notes with huge citrusy floral undertones notes is quite pleasant. Taste is also a mix of huge tropical notes with some citrusy floral undertones with some residual sugar notes with a semi-dry finish with no discernible bitterness. Body is full with good carbonation. Another great NEIPA from this fine brewery.
