Sufferfest Beer Co. "Head Start"
12 fl. oz. can "PKGD 080619C05:57"
Notes via stream of consciousness: This one is a stout brewed with coconut water and added coffee. It's poured a very dark brown body that appears black in the full galss. You can see some dark mahogany and ruby highlights at the base of the glass if you hold it to the light. Wow! You can actually smell the coconut in the aroma! I assumed that the coffee would drown it out but both are there. The coffee is halfway between the smell of oily beans in the bin ready for purchase and a cup of roasty black coffee that's cooled down. The flavor is sweetish, somewhat fruity, coconut-like, nutty, caramelish, grainy, sugary (brown sugar, molasses), lightly chocolatey, and softly roasty. A moderate bitterness balances it and it finishes dry with some delicate residual chocolate and a soft ashen roastiness. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and gently crisp. The head held up fairly well and it's left some decent lace behind.

Pours dark brown but fairly light in viscosity. A nice tan head. Limited retention but excellent lacing.
Aromas are fairly pronounced and inviting. Coffee, of course, and coconut, which is a good start, as I've had plenty of beers that advertise coconut as an aroma/flavor that don't deliver.
Molasses sweetness on the tip of the tongue. Roasted malts in midstream, along with dark chocolate, some nuttiness and a bit of coconut. The end is very good, with smoke/ash, tobacco, licorice, and astringent char.
Medium bodied. One of the lightest-bodied stouts I've had. Not really problematic. Has a fairly simple slightly drying finish. Smooth, but well carbonated.
A decent stout in its own right, it's fairly remarkable when one considers what it is, i.e., a gluten-free brew. Obviously, it lacks the body of a typical stout, but it hangs in there pretty well.

not sure if its just me or what but although this is a nicely crafted beer, my taste buds detected a strong presence of coconut flavor. I do not like coconut.
Were it not for this I would rate it at least a 4.5. The look, smell and feel are all good, but coconut isnt my thing. :sigh:

APPEARANCE: Deep and dark with ruby highlights. Huge khaki head, Ornate lace.
AROMA: Cocoa, coconut, quite delicious already!
TASTE: Roasty cocoa, hint of coconut and coffee. Body seems a bit light, but the flavor is full-on and well-balanced. A very tasty if untraditional stout here.

Pours a very effervescent cola/mahogany color with 2+ fingers of fast falling mocha colored head. Some lacing & less head retention
S: Faint cocoa notes, some coconut
T: Follows the nose, fairly dry. Gets fairly roasty as this warms, still coconut hanging around. Finishes dry with coffee grounds & coconut
MF: Slight body, fairly firm carbonation the eventually flattens out to much
Mediocre stout, these gals will not have to worry about me giving them any more money. These beers had two strikes against them, all low calorie ( not my desire ) & the market the fact the brewery is run by women, So what? Maybe they could take at Stoudts beers & see what Carol did?

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a pint glass.
Appears very dark brown with a tan foamy head and light lacing.
Smells coconut, slightly malty, and coffee.
Taste is definitely cocunut forward, which I really enjoyed, and coffee.
Mouth feel is medium light for the style.
Overall a nice cocunut coffee Stout that I would definitely drink again.
