With ripe banana and warm clove, accented by a whisper of citrus zest. A faint grainy sweetness that adds a certain freshness of wheat fields and enhancing the beer’s inviting character.

Light yeasty banana and clove aroma and flavor. Fairly traditional but on the lighter side. Medium to light bodied and fairly smooth for 5.3%.

I'm not a fan of weissbier, and this is that kind. It has a rough taste. It's drinkable but not one I would look for more of.
I'm looking forward to the helles in the box.

Pours a nice golden color with a large head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is light malt with some sweetness. Definitely a German beer, more mellow than the American counterpart. Very good beer. BB 7-11-2026

Poured from a can into a Weizen glass.
Look: Thin head, but i poured this one slowly. Poor head retention, but decent lacing.
Smell: Banana. Sweet malt.
Taste: Very subtle in flavor.
Feel: The mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery. The carbonation is good.
Overall: Unremarkable, but perfectly drinkable. This would be a fine beer to pair with a meal.

Schlossbrauerei Grünbach "Grünbacher Altweisse Gold"
16.9 fl. oz. can coded "P: 01/04/2025 E: 01/10/2026 13:22:58 03". Sampled on 18/10/2025
$59.99 / 24 can mixed case - Costco's Biergarten Collection, Costco, Christiana, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is brewed at the Schlossbrauerei Grünbach in Kellerburg (northwest of München) but it's canned by the Privatebauerei Eibau in Eibau (417 kilometers NW on the Czech border east of Dresden). Poured into a proper weissbier glass it's a cloudy deep-golden with an orange sheen at the widest part at the top. The head is two fingers thick, and a creamy white in color. In the nose it's malty and fruity (fallen apple), and mildly phenolic with some banana and a bit of clove and spiciness. On to the taste... the flavor follows the aroma with the apple-like fruitiness and sweetish & wheaty malt dominating. I love weissbiers with more banana to them but this is still perfectly within style, and quite nice. I'm not finding any bitterness but neither did I expect to. There's a light touch of acidity to it, and the spiciness and clove linger on the tip of the tongue in the finish helping to dry it. I'll say it's fairly well balanced and rounded. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp with a standard carbonation level. I generally like a little more carbonation in a weissbier but the softer and smoother approach works here as well. It does hurt the head retention and lacing but perhaps that's a fair enough trade-off for a smoother mouthfeel.

Muddked gold pour, quick head. Nose is mild banana bread.
Taste gives you ripe banana, subtle spice, bready wheat, light kilned malt. Light mouthfeel, carbonation noticeable. Finish goes back to the nose, mild banana bread.

Name: Grunbacher Altweisse Gold

Location: Grunbacher bei Erding, Germany
Style: Hefeweizen

I bought this at Costco as well, I am on my way to drinking german beer. The beer is 10 months old and has a shelf life of one year. I am using a pokal glass and serving the beer at 42 degrees. The pour created a frothy, creamy one-fingered head with exceptional retention. The slow dissipation left chunks of lacing on the glass. The color is straw yellow with hues of light amber; the clarity is hazy, and the SRM is 4.
Nosing the beer, I detect notes of banana, cloves, toasted wheat, light toasted bread, light floral notes, phenolic notes, and a hint of white pepper.
Sipping the beer, I taste notes of bananas, cloves, toasted wheat, and lightly toasted malts, with light floral, orange, and phenolic ester aromas, as well as white pepper and a hint of earthiness.
The mouthfeel is soft, finishing crisp and clean. The body is thin with high carbonation.
Final Thought: I enjoyed this Hefe; it had the traditional flavors associated with this style. I could drink several of these after a long day at work.

Slightly hazy amber brew with abundant foam in the goblet. Wonderful aroma of fruit with some fresh bread. Grain and bananas. This is actually really good. The sudsy and slushy mouthfeel is pure Teutonic. The flavor is like a Hefeweizen toned down to realistic levels. There is a little spice, modest sweetness, and just a pleasant banana finish. The yeast does not rise up to dominate. I would want to investigate further, but I'd say this is one of the best Hefes I've ever drank. No actual package size on the US-market label, but looks like a 500 ml. Interestingly it's canned by a different brewery, Privatbrauerei Eibau. From the Costco box.

Smells of coriander, bananas
Medium mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
Taste of coriander, spices, alcohol
Overall not for me. Although this is a relatively low alcohol beer, the alcohol taste for some reason comes through as if this was a high ABV beer.

Drunk in October 2023 in the Hotel Am Klostergarten in Friesing, the night before leaving Germany.
L: Hazy, bright golden yellow with a very fast disappearing head for a wheat beer. Lots of fast-moving carbonation in the glass.
S: Bubblegum, banana, cloves and apricot.
T: Very closely follows the nose. Finishes long and tangy. Very nice.
M: Smooth, full and well-rounded.
O: The second last of the fresh wheat beers I drank in Germany. I love the zesty banana and apricot notes they show when fresh.
Cheers!
