February 2015: 500 ml bottle, as Grünbacher Altweisse Dunkel, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.3%. Hazy brown colour, pours fizzy with a large to moderate off-white head. Pleasant wheaty aroma with notes of cloves, citrus, banana and brown bread. Fairly light bodied, wheaty and citrussy flavour, hints of cloves, banana and brown bread again. Low bitterness, as typical for the style. A nice refreshment - even people who normally prefer the paler hefeweizens should not be scared stiff by this one.

Appearance:
Deep yellowish brown, hazy with a light brown head that dissipates almost instantly.
Smell:
Banana, alcohol, sweet
Taste:
At first it is very dry, carbonated and thin. Almost like drinking sparkling water. Light banana aftertaste. As it warms up, bread notes become more obvious and the beer becomes slightly heavier. Still with a highly carbonated and dry finish that doesn’t invite to drink more. Toasty notes are the finishing touch, along with mild bitterness.
Overall the presentation and aroma are much superior to the actual drinking experience. Below average.
