Trying the Pale Ale at the brewery. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent is a very nice combo of grapefruit and pine. The taste run slightly bitter but easy to drink. Decent pine and citrus peel presence. The Mouthfeel is lighter in body with big carbonation. Overall this is a solid offering and best so far.

One of my favorite pale ales so far. I'm very excited to have found Belmont Brewing. It's got a nice delicate hoppy finish, smooth and not bitter at all. It's nice and clean: very refreshing. Definitely a good summertime brew. It's a lower alcohol beer so it's nice when it's hot outside.

On tap at Belmont Brewing Company in Long Beach, CA.
Pours a slightly hazy gold with a tan head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small rings of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus zest, herbal hops, and some slight malt aromas. Taste is the same with a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good pale ale but nothing too special.

Consumed at brewery on 11/12/07.
Light golden color, nice march of fine bubbles up the sides of glass. Aroma has subtle hints of lemon and other citrus. Malt taste is grainy (not corny, though) with very mild hop notes on finish. This is an APA? Tastes more like a lager. Inoffensive.

A: Lively lemonade color, unfiltered. Not much head to speak of, just a film of white lace across the top.
S: Lemon rind, skunk and grains of paradise.
T: This beer tastes like 85% lemon and 15% grapefruit. NOt pungently sourn nor really sweet, almost like watered down unsweetened lemon juice. Light bitterness stays with the drinker thru the entire process. Somewhat floral hop character adds some very much needed dimension. Finishessort of gray and boring.
M: Thin body, kind of hard across the palate.
D: Whole lotta lemon in this one. Pretty boring.

Presentation: Sampled at Belmont Brewing Company, Long Beach during a recent regular Thursday get together with the LongBeachHopHeads. Ordered a Pitcher of the Pale Ale from the Menu, I dont recall seeing this one before. Described on the BBC Menu as Pale Ale yet it stated that it was based on a light Bavarian Wheat and listed at 4.8% ABV. Go figure!?
Appearance: Hazed pale straw body with a light milky look. Fizzy white head from the Pitcher. Finger thick bleached white head stays around but breaks halfway down the Pint leaving a broken surface that leaves something which resembles a watered down Wheat beer. Conditioning is good but the lacing is very low.
Nose: Hoppy aromas with lots of freshly cut zesty lemons and acidic grapefruits. Some grass and a lingering citric element. The nose has a massive sharpness to its constitution and a very angular cutting aspect to it, the fact that I didnt get any malt in the nose just accentuates this element.
Taste: Like the nose, the malts are nowhere to be found in the taste. Lots of lemon, rind, zest, peel and pink grapefruit sharpness. A little hint of wheat in the middle, but it s very feint. This is dominated by the sharper contributions from the hops. Clean with a crisp, bitter finish that stays around a while. A little too one-sided though, but I enjoyed it.
Mouthfeel: Average levels of carbonation but pleasing in the Mouthfeel with a finely dissolved conditioning that has prickly. Despite this it can have a thin feel at times as you work your way through it.
Drinkability: Given its one-sided balance and lack of input from the malts, no doubt this is a polarizing brew that some will dislike. The high end sharpness from the hops and the grapefruit-lemon tingle are dominant.
Overall: A very strange brew indeed, called a Pale Ale, with a description that referenced Bavarian Wheat (which could have been wrong) and actually drank like a sharp lemon-grapefruit Blonde Ale. So I listed it as the latter. I couldnt work it all out, but this is an interesting offering nonetheless.
