This classic Belgian Witbier has everything you would expect in the style plus the spirit of do anything that has inspired Belgian beers for centuries. Made with yeast straight out of Belgian, the characteristic spicy, slightly tart finish is accented by the complexity of cloves. The addition of orange peel and spicy/flowery coriander seeds completes this wit.

this actually a pretty nice example of the style, nothing about it to really set it apart in terms of recipe or anything, but its mighty well executed and seems to me to be way ahead of the curve for american craft brewers doing this sort of thing. the wheat is fresh, the yeast is flavorful, not entirely generic, and well enough restrained that its not all esters in here, and there is a cleanness about the whole thing, a faster finish than most. its almost creamy feeling from the wheat, fluffy and full of protein, dry though at the end, and soft and bubbly to drink no, warm weather beer for sure. subtle lime leaf and lemongrass notes along with the more traditional coriander complexion, lightly spicy, a little toasted and nutty, but mostly in service of the yeast, which seems to have a little under ripe pear thing going on. i love the smoothness this has and the mellow but flavorful nature of the beer overall. impressive in a style i almost always defer to the belgians themselves for. great job with the yeast and the fermentation overall!

Mislabeled at the brewery as a wheat beer. Then labeled elsewhere in the brewery as a witnier. Lemon back in the aftertaste. Diluted in color and in taste.

On tap at Billings Rio Sabinas. Smaller sample.
Very pale yellow, barely cloudy clarity. Very thin and film head. Mild light tart fruitiness and faint yeast spiciness to smell. Taste is very woody for the style. I like it. Still some grainier, grassier qualities, but that woodiness lingers. Hops are floral. A lot less overtly fruity than your average Witbier. Spiciness is atrong but quite in balance. Light to medium in body, gentle effervescence.

On draught at Old Chicago.
Pours a cloudy yellow with a fine layer of foam.
Smells strongly of cloves and...burnt wheat? Weird description but the best I can do.
Tastes the same as the smell but not as much of a burnt sensation. Cloves are nicely done but I don't get any coriander, which I appreciate in a Wit. Pretty disappointing.
