Rye Oktoberfest Style Lager
If you remember from last year's Dunkle Marzen, our brewer loves to play around with this style. For this years batch he decided to make a rye or roggen, Oktoberfest Marzen beer. We replaced a good portion of the grain bill with standard rye malt and a couple caramel rye malts of similar level we use in our normal Oktoberfest. The result is a creamy and slightly spicy rich brew that is slightly darker than our regular batch. The rye imparts all this being a little darker, and adding lots of mouthfeel along with that unique rye flavor. I think you all will enjoy this one!

16 ounce Prowler bought at Liquor Shed. $5
It pours a clear deep red with an ample amount of foam, good lacing. Nice looking brew.
Smell is on the light side. Caramel and bready malt, some light spice from the rye.
The taste is more assertive. Lovely caramel malt, bread, some nuttiness, some spicy rye. All in balance with nothing overpowering anything else.
Mouthfeel is good.
After a few sips, I do get a bit of diacetyl. Butter not butterscotch but the level is low.
All in all, I enjoyed it.
