I have never been to Accomplice or Cheyenne that I can recall. They have a big rodeo that I would like to attend one day. I am using a chalice, and the serving temperature is 48 degrees. The pour created a creamy one-fingered light tan head with average retention. The somewhat quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass, only a thin ring. The color is a dark brown with a mahogany red hue, charting at SRM 20, and is semi-opaque. The appearance is average for this style.
Nosing the beer, I smell yeasty phenols, dates, raisins, brown sugar, dark roasted malts, cloves, banana, earthiness, bready, dried cherries, plums, black pepper, vanilla, and a light floral bouquet.
Sipping the beer, I taste bread, earthiness, dried cherries, plums, cloves, banana, dark roasted malts, black pepper, spicy phenols, floral bouquet, date, brown sugar, raisins, and vanilla.
The mouthfeel is astringent, finishing warm. The body is medium-plus, with medium-plus carbonation.
Final Thought: I would have preferred a fuller body to this dark Belgian beer. Overall, this is a tasty beer and follows the guidelines. I will have to visit Cheyenne and make a detour to Accomplice—tasty beer after a long day.
