Tangy, bready and spicy, in what's likely the creme of the crop from the new and upstart brewpub, Life, the sourness hidden inside this gem is clean, crisp and playful while tantalizing the tastebuds.
Sourdough Saison pours a pale straw color with a short and spritzy froth. Racing carbonation fuel a pop of perfume that hosts an array of fruits from citrus to orchard, to tropical along with a tingle of vinous spice and a mildly earthen fragrance to boot. Light sweetness is of hard candy, and yep- sourdough. Slim vegemite and fresh bread dough lean against the early palate and await the promised sourness.
As the maltiness breaks up its bread and sweet influences, the middle palate races in with the tang of lemon, lime and under ripened oranges. Apple cider notes are dry and winey while a dry peach character also persists. Gooseberry, passionfruit and kiwi all come out to play before a finish of peppercorn, hay and burlap and with one last pep of sparkling dry white wine.
Medium light and bone dry, the arid beer is effortless on the palate while in true saison fashion, the beer's spiciness outlasts any fruit for a classic dry, effervescent and spice forward linger, albeit with a piquant sourness that refreshes the palate and quenches the thirst with utter ease.
