This is my seCANd in/on New Oliver Beers Sunday (Week 771)! Not only does it help in the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm), but it also leads into a massive purge of/from my kitchen reefer. I hope to make some real inroads over the course of the day.
From the CAN: "Belgian Style Wheat Ale"; "See the Light"; "Brewed with bitter and sweet orange peel, lemon peel, coriander, and Grains of Paradise, it's our take on a classic light-bodied Belgian Wheat Ale."; "Oliver Brewing Co. has been proudly brewing craft beer in Baltimore, MD since 1993."
I like to do some in-CAN agitation with beer styles that are appropriate for such action. The previous N2 CAN just did not want me to shake it. NEVER! Even this one just got a few rotations before the Crack!ing open of the vent. I went with an inverted Glug once the vent was open to ensure that any of the adjuncts mentioned were back in suspension after possible flocculation. This initially resulted in the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with decent retention. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Amber (SRM => 7, < 9). Nose was really spicy with the coriander & grains of Paradise, but backed up with a pleasant citrusiness from the orange & lemon peel. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but certainly big for this style. The taste was like a Christmas cookie - spicy, citrusy, bready, very evocative of the coming holiday!
In retrospect, perhaps I should have set this aside for my annual Christmas supper. Once a year, I make a Crock Pot Roast with carrots, onions, celery & a stock from the simmering beef with some ale. This beer might be a good one to have with the beef at the end of the month. I really did not CANsider it until now.
Finish was very dry, as should be expected in/from a beer infused with spices. As I said, it was quite evocative of a spiced Christmas cookie. YMMV.

I like how hoppy this beer is. Was expecting more of a hefeweizen, but got something completely different! What really put this beer over the top for me was the amazing mouth feel. Super foamy and overall very pleasant. Easy drinking here, and is not lacking in flavor. Would drink again.

Poured into a Weizen beer glass, the beer is a slightly hazy deep gold, with a nice off white head forming about one inch thick. The smell hints orange zest and other citrus flavors. Tasting the beer, the nose is confirmed. The feel of the beer is more like an Belgium ale rather than a wit beer. Overall I like it the refreshing taste and drinkability of the beer.
