Welcome (back, sort of) to the CANclusion of New Oliver Beer Sunday (Week 773), which I beCAN on NBS Week 771 & did not have a ChANce to finish. Not only does this further The CANQuest (tm), but it also helps to clear a logjam from my reefer. There really is a modicum of reasoning to this ongoing madness. At long last, we are CANming into the meat & potatoes of this brewery horizontal!

From the CAN: "The Double India Pale Ale Series"; "Long live rock and roll"; "A collaboration with rock band Merlin in celebration of their new album, The Wizard. This Double IPA is heavy in all the right ways, and dry hopped with Nelson Sauvin and Simcoe."; "Oliver Brewing Co. has been proudly brewing craft beer in Baltimore, MD since 1993."; "Drink Fresh. Please Refrigerate."

This is one where I've done everything right! It was part of a "Heavy Hitters" 4-pack that went right into the reefer upon its arrival at Chez Woody. I CANebrated my success by Crack!ing open the vent & beginning a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed beautifully to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with excellent retention. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a grape-y cattiness as though naughty little Simcoe the kitty had decided to do her business under the arbor! 8=O Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but a) on the approach & b) light for the style. This tasted GOOOD! The catty dankness of the Simcoe was cut beautifully by a lightly-sweet grapiness. When I was stationed in S.F.'s East Bay, my uncle was a home vintner & made an early batch that was much like this! His was not necessarily by design, but he was displeased because he wanted more of the grape flavor while in this case, I feel that thee was just enough. The catty, bitter hoppiness was prevalent, as it should be & I was feeling satiated as a result. Finish was semi-dry, almost like a white wine. Very nice. YMMV.

Warm golden orange, slight haze. Nice white head, good retention and lace
Smells like muscadine grapes, a bit dank, hint of pine
Flavor follows aroma. Very hop saturated. A little bit of malt sweetness
A touch sticky and a little bit of alcohol burn.
One of the more interesting DIPAs I've had in a bit

This is a really nice DIPA. Easy drinking for the alcohol and a very nice balance of flavors. One of the better local DIPAs I’ve had lately for sure.
