Welcome (back, sort of) to the CANtinuation of New Oliver Beer Sunday (Week 772), which I beCAN last Sunday & did not have a ChANce to finish. Not only does this further The CANQuest (tm), but it also helps to clear a logjam from my reefer. There really is a modicum of reasoning to this ongoing madness.

From the CAN: "Belgian Style Blonde Ale"; "Integrity * Oliver Brewing Co. * Decibel Magazine * Belgian Style Blonde Ale"; "Integrity"; "Howling, For The Nightmare Shall Consume."; "A Begian-style blonde ale brewed with Integrity in celebration of Decibel Magazine's Metal & Beer Festival, March 31 - April 1 2018."; "Oliver Brewing Co. has been proudly brewing craft beer in Baltimore, MD since 1993."

I Crack!ed the vent & once more beCAN a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. Man, did this bad boy ever want to foam! I wound up with two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention, taking forever to fall away. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose was … different. I smelled doughy bread with not exactly honey, but something more flowery, more like perfume. Honeysuckle! It had a bright, late-Spring/early-Summer quality that was inCANgruous with the label. 8=O Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was even more interesting. It had a pronounced mustiness & a definite black pepperiness to acCANpony the extant honey-breadiness! Wow. I was impressed by all of this, but I was not exactly enamored of it. It was just a bit too dry, even for me. The yeast had created a lot of interesting esters, but the CANbination along with the intense dryness made me reach for my asthma inhaler. Hey, if that's your bag, so be it, but for me, it was just a bit much. The finish remained quite dry. Phew! YMMV.

Overall, this is an average at best Belgian Pale Ale...couldn't really find any characteristic that distinguished it from a lot of others of similar style. The beer poured a deep, dark amber color with a nice foamy slightly off-white head. This was probably the best quality. The aroma was weak and grainy and the taste was flat and did not have that sweetness that one would expect from the style. The beer seemed over-carbonated, especially for a can. Would probably not buy this again.

Described as a Belgian Blonde, but since that isn't a style on this site, added as Belgian Pale Ale.
Pours a light copper/burnished gold with some yeasty haze. Nice white head, meh retention, good lace.
Aroma of lemon peel, slight banana, bit of generic phenols, some bready malt.
Pils malt breadiness, smoky and spicy phenols, what I'm thinking is some hop-derived citrus. The smokiness adds to complexity but distracts from the other flavors. Not sure how I feel about it at first, but I'm warming up to it.
Light and drinkable, but not as light as expected.
Pretty good. Not great as a one and done, but pretty good as something to sit with.
