Welcome (back, sort of) to the CANtinuation of New Oliver Beer Sunday (Week 772), which I beCAN last Sunday & did not have a ChANce to finish. Not only does this further The CANQuest (tm), but it also helps to clear a logjam from my reefer. There really is a modicum of reasoning to this ongoing madness.

From the CAN: "Drink Fresh - Action Required"; "To: Craft Beer Drinker East Coast, USA"; "Dry-Hopped with Ella, Galaxy and Wakatu"; "Hazy India Pale Ale brewed with Lactose"; "Drink Fresh"; "An India Pale Ale gernerously dry hopped with Galaxy, Ella and Wakatu. Drink Fresh. Enjoy Responsibly."; "Oliver Brewing Co. has been proudly brewing craft beer in Baltimore, MD since 1993."

I gather that I was meant to drink this when it was fresh. 8=( Such is the nature of my backlog. Hey, at least it was not exposed to either high temperatures or direct sunlight … These have all been well-cared for.

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN one of the slowest, gentlest C-Line Glugs in recent memory! Why? Like a jagov, I had NOT followed their explicit directions & it was no longer fresh. Why do it a further disservice with a heavy-handed Glug? It foamed beautifully to form just under two fingers of dense, pillowy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose smelled like a tropical fruit cocktail! 8=O

It was like I was back inna Philippines, drinking Mojo! 8=O Man, they would whip up some joy juice that would knock yer d**k inna dirt for days. It CANsisted of fruit juices, usually freshly-picked & squeezed by the girls during the slow hours, mixed with rum, brandy, beer & pop. Whoo! Man, this beer had it all!

Mouthfeel was big, thick & full inna mouth & onna tongue! My inadvertent aging had not hurt it at all. It was like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. The taste was just a riotous mélange of tropical fruitiness! I keep advocating for a Tropical IPA style since that was not really my idea (or the Style Guide's) of an AIPA. Still, it was a showcase for Southern Hemisphere hops & while it may not be my bag, I CAN still appreciate them. Man, this was unrelenting in terms of its juiciness. It was like biting into a ripe CANbined mango, guava, peach, passionfruit! 8=O I CANnot tell you what it was like fresh, but aged, it has melded into a masterpiece. This CANbination just needs some PNW hops to really make it something that a hophead junkie like myself would really dig. Dig? Finish was amazingly dry, just beautiful. Mmm. YMMV.

Pours deep gold, some haze, but not like what a lot of other beers of this type are like. Thin white head, not that great retention or lace
Lots of overripe tropical fruit, some piney dank and citrus
A lot of passionfruit flavor, some mango, some pine. Slightly tart
Feels a little thin and could use more carbonation
Meh

Poured into a goblet from a can dated 8/7/18. Very hazy but not turbid. A Golden-amber color with a beautiful off-white head that lasted seemingly forever, leaving thick sheets on the glass. Aroma was very tropical with pineapple, mango, and tangerine. A hint of sweet malt and vanilla. The fruit was there as expected on the first sip. There was an up-front bitterness but it softened through the drink and blended nicely with the flavors. Plenty of tropical fruit. I cringed when I read the lactose on the label. It was there, and thankfully restrained, adding some heft to the body and a slight smoothness but avoiding overly sweetness. Overall, a fun and enjoyable beer.
