16 oz. Can
Canned: 09/12/18

Almost 6 months on this can.

Poured into a Tree House glass a nice cloudy dark orangy/yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which also leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is nice, hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango, guave), slight diesel. The taste is nice, hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, mango, guave), some diesel. Medium body, ABV is hidden well, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a tasty brew, would have liked to try it with alot less months on it.

Can't say that I ever had an American Pale Ale like this before but the ingredients and the nitro made this intriguing and worth a try when I was at Total Wine in Orange two weeks ago. Indeed, this was not a typical for it's style but I found it to be enjoyable, flavorful, and certainly full as this was as close to a meal in a can as I've had in quite some time!

Quite an unusual pour this beer as I botched it up a bit. Yeah, I shook it a little but didn't quite pour it that hard. Sure, it bubbled up and was very cloudy on top of it's muddled goldenrod hue. However, the last little bit on the bottom that I had to swirl and pour in at the end was *very* muddled and murky as it was like pure oats as it drastically changed the appearance and texture of this beer. Loads of flaked oats, wheat, and melon in the nose as the taste was both wet and dry at the same time. Yes, that's contradictory but the oats, wheat, and biscuit were fully present as the Citra gave this the countering slickness that this needed. The Heull Melon as the Mandarina Bavaria complemented the hops and grain wonderfully. The grainy earthiness really shone through once this warmed up as the aftertaste felt like a dry, white wine that only left me wanting more once I finished this off.

Not a lot of booze and carbonation to this as to my surprise, there was hardly any sediment left at the bottom of the liquid once I got down to the bottom of this. A few dark spots had to be swirled out of my pint glass, which was nothing for something of this sort. Canned on 9/12/18 with "DEFEND FREEDOM" written underneath that, this caught me by surprise but it's easy to see why this would not appeal to a larger audience. A bit more carbonation or an actual nitro widget and a bit more Citra would have elevated this and not made it seem to heavy but in the end, this was a fun beer that reminded me that not all American Pale Ales have to be cut from the same cloth!

Dull, dirty peach colored body with a respectable lasting yet thin sudsy head; cloudy. Nice, clean citrus aroma mixed with pineapple. Tart and acidic taste predominantly; pasty grain flavor; rather phenolic at the finish. Medium body; citrus juiciness; wet flour feel initially yet finishes with a sharp bite.

This beer is what it is. It's overall character probably should appeal to the NEIPA and hazy loving crowd. My sample was canned on "09/12/18 DEFEND FREEDOM" per the bottom stamp.

Oliver Brewing Company / Stillwater Artisanal "People Power"
1 Pint can, coded "09/12/18 DEFEND FREEDOM"

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a cloudy, no, make that murky, orange-tan body beneath a short head of off-white. It actually looks like really muddy water. I didn't know this was a haze bomb, what does it say on the label? "Nitro Multigrain Pale Ale". Well that explains the lack of head, but not the murkiness. OK, moving on, the aroma is juicy with orange over a bready, lightly toasty and slightly caramelish maltiness. I certainly wouldn't call it a juice bomb though. The aroma is good, I'll give it that, but at the same time it's not that bold, nor is it anything special. On to the flavor... as you might expect it follows the flavor. The maltiness remains bready, lightly toasty, and slightly caramelish but also a little spicy - I'm assuming from rye. I'm finding notes of orange, mango, soft lemon, and melon. A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes dry and a bit spicy. Not unlike the aroma, it's good but it's far from anything special. In fact, now that I think about it, it seems a little watery. I'm sure that's at least partially due to the lack of carbonation, but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of body there either; medium-light I'd guess. It seems like an English ale done with American hops, and one that's unfortunately gone flat. I wouldn't recommend this.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 9/12/2018. Pours very hazy golden orange/amber color with a 1 finger dense and creamy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of mandarin orange, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, strawberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, wheat, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big mandarin orange, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, strawberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, wheat, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of mandarin orange, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, strawberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, wheat, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Light carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky/grainy, and fairly sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a very nice nitro American pale ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink withe modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Nice Citra, Mandarina Bavaria, Huell Melon profile. Very juicy, and fairly dank/earthy hop complexity; nice wheat/oat/malt backbone, minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Would have probably been better without the nitro; but was still a very enjoyable offering, and well made style example otherwise.

Light brown, hazy, little head, no retention or lace
Lots of mango and other tropical fruit in the nose
Crisp, tropical fruit hoppiness, grainy malt
A little flat, might've liked it more if it was CO2 instead of nitro
