I'm back from my break in/on New Oliver Beers Sunday (Week 771)! Not only does today help in the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm), but it also leads into a massive purge of/from my kitchen reefer. I hope to make some real inroads over the course of the day.
From the CAN: "Sour Ale with Cherry, Lime, Coriander and Pink Himalayan Sea Salt"; "This Sour Ale is brewed with cherry, lime, coriander and just a touch of pink Himalayan sea salt."; "Oliver Brewing Co. has been proudly brewing craft beer in Baltimore, MD since 1993."
I did some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent to begin a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. My efforts paid off in terms of both a pseudo-cascade & the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, pinkish head with very good retention. Color was a murky, turbid Light Pink (SRM = N/A), like freshly-squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice. 8=O Nose was really tart & citrusy with a definite saltiness. Mmm. I have an affinity for Goses & this seemed like it was going to be good. Mouthfeel was thin to medium, not quite watery, but not far removed from it, either. The taste was quite interesting, with the lime citrusiness & the saltiness leading the way, underlain by a cherry juiciness. I'd be very curious to know what type(s) of cherry/cherries were used in this. It was not really sweet, but at the same time, it was not all that sour, either. Hmm. Finish was where the coriander beCAN to assert itself & if the CANbination was not dry up to that point, now it was puckeringly dry. Spices tend to dry out beers as a general rule, but it this case, it was almost like gilding the lily. Now, I am very CANious to try the Blueberry/Lemon version. YMMV.
