Oak Grove is a blend of golden sours aged in Twenty Valley wine barrels. Fermented with our house culture of yeasts and Lactobacillus, and aged in barrels for 12 months, this tart beer displays notes of orange, lime zest, stone fruit and a distinct oak character. Soft and very dry, this beer finishes with a pleasing, crisp acidity. Cellars well.

Yeast: Lactobacillus, Saison and Brettanomyces
Malts: Bohemian Floor-Malted Pilsner, Wheat Malt, Toasted Wheat Flakes, Spelt Malt, Carafoam
Hops: Mosaic

Clear gold with almost no head. Rich complex sour nose with some oak notes. Medium sour body with some woody depth and very dry. Clean, crisp feel.

500 ml bottle purchased from the LCBO for around $7 CDN. Served cool into a chalice. Listed at 7% ABV. Date on the bottle says June 12, 2019.

Appearance - Opaque golden color, some carbonation visible and a small half finger of white forms and fizzles away immediately.

Smell - Quite tart, some wood, citrus, lime especially as well as more oak.

Taste - Quite sour initially with some fruity sweetness underneath and possible a trace of vanilla. Otherwise its orange and lime leading the way with some brett, wood and grapes. Grapes very well integrated, especially noticeable the farther you get into the beer. Some barnyard funk in there as well.

Mouthfeel - Quite fizzy and spritzy with a dry character and medium bodied. Booze is pretty well integrated.

Overall - Not the best sour I've had lately but the oak, lime and heavy grape influences make this an interesting wood. Stacks up well with their portfolio of tasty locally sourced products. Worth a try if funky sours are your thing.

Sour Ale Aged in Twenty Valley Wine Barrels for four months. Aromas of tropical fruit with notes of stone fruit and oak. Tart and tangy with a dry finish. I did the first three tasting flights off their beer menu, all are excellent, & this is, IMHO, best of the bunch!
