Saw the can at Table and Vine in West Springfield, Massachusetts and had to pick one up.
10% ABV.
HEAD: ~5cm wide head of khaki-tan colour. ~5-7 minute retention.
BODY: Murky brown colour.
AROMA: Cherry? Yup. Not too tart, but cherry juice is present. Bready malts. It's pretty cleanly attenuated; I'd guess lager yeast if I didn't know it was an altbier. None of the 10% ABV is present aromatically; that's pretty dazzling.
One of the liveliest yet cleanest aromas I've encountered in some time. Suggests a possibly unique brew with a balance cherry-emphatic taste.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Tart and acidic, emphasizing a clean cherry fruit forward flavour accented by lively yeast intangibles. 10%? I'm in awe; this drinks like it's maybe 6%. Balanced and well-built, albeit a little simplistic. There is room for improvement in terms of intricacy and depth of flavour, but all around it's approachable fare.
Smooth, wet, clean, light to medium-bodied, well-carbonated.
OVERALL: Highly drinkable - astoundingly so for its high ABV. It delivers on its premise and I'd definitely buy it again. Solid work from a brewery I need to give more attention to.
