Sampling a lightly chilled 16 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer was picked up at the brewery last fall and has been in my cellar since.
Beer pours a dark coffee brown with a dense creamy beige head of 1.5 cm. this foam fades slowly to a sturdy surface covering and good edging. Lots of dense lattice on the sides of my glass when I swirl or take a sip. Beer looks the part for a Imperial Stout.
Aroma is some chocolate candy bar and roasted malt with a little bit of spicy bourbon, not the sweeter notes that can be in a brown liquor. A little black pepper and some charred wood in the background. No hops come through on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with medium carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Drinks a little lighter than I would expect for a 10% Imperial Stout.
Flavor is similar to the nose. Good amount of dark chocolate, some bourbon notes and some brownie. Bourbon is again peppery not sweet. No hops anywhere and booze is also dangerously well hidden. The beer drinks like 7.5% not 10% for sure.
I find this to be an okay BBA imperial stout, could be more robust flavor, feel and nose. Not something I would chase again to be honest.
