Birrificio Angelo Poretti "Angelo Poretti 5 Doppio Malto Chiara"
33 cl brown glass bottle coded "LJ25225 D2C 11/2026"
€3,50 @ Supermercato Conad, Via Indipendenza 11, Bologna, IT
Look: Clear amber body beneath a short-lived head of frothy white.
Smell: In the nose it's malty, bready, and lightly biscuity with some floral, spicy, and herbal hops in the background.
Taste: The flavor follows with the addition of some lemony hop notes. It's malty and bready, and threaded through with herbal, lemony, and spicy hops. A median bitterness balances it and brings it to a mainly dry conclusion.
Feel: Medium bodied with a moderate, smooth carbonation.
Overall: Well-brewed but average overall.

Golden color with a thin head.
Mild malty and bready aroma with faint German hops in the background.
Flavor with notes of slightly toasted malts, mostly German herbal hops (or even the mentioned Saaz) and a bit of caramel and chocolate. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Bordering medium body with appropriate carbonation.
Decent Helles Bock with malty notes and balanced by proper noble or German hopping. Not very complex, though.

I ordered this one after drinking a Porettti #4 [Euro Pale Lager/5.5% ABV), that I had found lacking any character. Surely this one at 6.5% had something more to offer? This one was darker in colour, and together with that it did have more flavour, notably some malts. But considering the ABV it still seemed pitched to drinkers in a hot climate where being refreshing matters more than depth/character/flavour*. Add in the restaurant mark-up on top of import costs and it's not something I'd buy again. There isn't anything notably wrong (as with the #4), just little or nothing identifiably right either.
Drunk at: Donna Margherita Italian restaurant @ 183 Lavender Hill. London SW11 @ £4.90
For example: Consider what a 6.5% beer from a colder climate can be like; packed with flavour and character. For example some beers from the UK, Belgium, Japan, etc. This Poretti is not trying to bring any of that character, it's high ABV% within an unchallenging flavour profile.
