Thunderhead Brewing Co. “Schaben's Premium Mid-American Pilsner”
$ /16 oz. on tap at the brewery on 23 December 2022
Notes via consciousness: A clear golden body is capped by a finger’s width of white foam. The aroma is sweetish, grainy, and grassy. The flavor follows with some more breadiness to the malt, a touch of spiciness, and an underlying fruitiness that’s like apple. A firm bitterness balances it and brings it to a dry finish with grass and spiciness lingering. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and gently crisp. Both the head retention and lacing could be better but it’s still a decent Pilsner.

On tap at tasting room:
Pours a nice, clear golden. Streams of bubbles feed a white cap. That white cap feeds the sides of the glass, which clings to its offerings.
Nose is bread - freshly made but cooled, with an ever so delicate herbal note and a barely perceptible yeast tang.
Taste has a nice malt opening that has me wondering slightly if there might be a little wheat involved. Soft more than clean, there’s actually a little body to this. Malty opening gets a light grassy to herbal bitterness that lingers longer more than countering the malty notes.
This beer is malt-leaning, medium dry, and enjoyable to drink. It has what I like in the style, a recognizable subtleness in both malt and hop bitterness.

L: light straw yellow and hazy. Strange for this to be unfiltered but what the hey.
S:light grains with nice herbal hop note
T: Smooth nice grains balanced with herbal hops that finishes clean with no bite. It seems Lightly hopped compared to others in the style.
F: light with low carbonation.
O: I really enjoyed this beer first one from the sample pack I like. Smooth easy drinking here. No not the most complex or unique beer but a very enjoyable one. Simple is sometimes the best.

Poured into a fluted pilsener glass.
Look: Semi-cloudy pale straw yellow body sits under a white head that recedes to a light film with light watery lacing.
Aroma: Light grains, crackers, lightly dried grasses.
Taste: Wheat grains, white bread, sweet dough, slightly citric dried grasses, hints of lemon zest, with a sweet clean finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium to light.
Overall: This pils was on the sweeter side, and it goes down really easy. It's lacking the almost sour grass bite that many pils I encounter have. I like this one more than most in the style.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass, there is no "best by" date that I can find.
APPEARANCE: pours a slightly hazy, light gold color with one-finger white head that quickly dissipated until a thin, broken layer of small bubbles remained, there is moderate lacing on the glass, medium carbonation.
SMELL: crackers, bread and sweet sugar.
TASTE: initially sweet then crackers and bread and a finishes with a pleasantly light hop kiss.
PALATE: medium body and carbonation.
OVERALL: this is a good traditional German Pilsener, some would say the haze is inappropriate for the style and maybe it is, but it did not diminish my experience and was pleasing enough to my eye so my score was not lowered for this, I enjoyed this and would buy again, it's light and crisp and does not burn out your palate, the 5% ABV allows you to enjoy more than one, I would recommend to anyone who enjoys Pilsener.

Gorgeous SRM=3 body with a fluffy 2 fingered head. The haze in the body is absolutely fine, it's so pretty.
Aromas of lightly toasted cereal, a touch of fruit/esters, and of caramel, coriander, and hop. Very clean overall.
Flavor starts out with a biting edge bringing quackgrass, canaloupe, lemon, and honeydew to the table. It pushes through to a bready flavor and a fresh fruit finish.
Feel is creamy yet still super refreshing and crisp. Slight wet cardboard on the finish, otherwise...Perfection.
Overall, to style, may be one of the best Pilsners on the planet. Rivals Behemoth from CORE to be possibly the best Pilsner I've had.
