On tap, in a 12 ounce glass chalice, at the Mike Hess Brewing in Alpine, CA.
Appearance - A nice yellow/orange color. Slightly hazy. Big head that dissipated after a bit. Good lacing. A fine looking ale.
Nose - Fresh. A combination of citrus, pine needles, and lawn clippings. I know those are all West Coast IPA cliches but it is what it is.
Taste - The malt foundation (slightly sweet) and the hops (again , citrus, pine needles, and lawn clippings) are nicely balanced. This is one tasty, easy drinking IPA.
Mouth - Smooth.
Overall - What a pleasant surprise. Here’s a West Coast IPA that’s not trying to club me over the head. It’s the mama bear of IPAs (not too little and not too much). I would say it’s chugable but at 6.8% abv, that’s not exactly true.
