i am not sure why every brewery in montana needs to try to make a cold smoke clone, its untouchable there, so just let it be. this is fine ale, i mean, its malty and somewhat nuanced and sweet in the right places yet earthy and toast in others, a great malt driven brew, but in the end it seems like a copycat beer and i dont take too kindly to that. this is fine, but of the four beers i had from these guys, its definitely the least remarkable, and not that its bad at all, thats not the story here, but just that its samey, and all the others they are making seem so much more innovative. another sweet and light bodied malty red scotch ale in montana? come on. this has some nice drinkability as its lower body and lower alcohol for the style, but as smooth and mellow as it feels and tastes, this remains overly familiar and generic, and not very interesting as they go. quality is higher than my personal enjoyment factor for that reason. solid brewery, but another scotch ale in montana is like a shot of fireball in a college town, and im not so into that...
