Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a dark brown color with a small head of tan foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big of a coffee and milk smell mixed with aromas of chocolate and some crème. Along with these smells comes a rather strong showing of molasses and roasted malt as well as a touch of char and smoke.
Taste – The taste begins with a slightly sweeter caramel and brown sugar flavor mixed with a nice coffee and Irish crème flavor. As the taste advances it takes on more roastiness with the roasted malt that was also present upfront, getting stronger in intensity. At the same time there is a more coffee that develops as well, with the crème getting slightly more intense at the expense of some of the sweeter caramel and brown sugar. At the very end a bit of char and leather come to the tongue, leaving one with a nice roasty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is slightly thicker and more chewy with a carbonation level that is quite low. For the style and the abv. the feel is good and makes for a nice slow sipper overall.
Overall – A decent and rather tasty porter. Nothing too special, but fun to try none the less.
