Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The brew pours a dark brown color with super small tan colored foam. The head fades rather fast, leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a roasted malt smell mixed with aroma tons of chocolate and of a sweet cherry and cola like smell. Along with these smells comes a bit of a char and nut aroma as well as smells of caramel and molasses.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted and toasted malt flavor mixed with some lighter molasses and cocoa tastes. Mixed with these flavors is a light coffee and nut flavor as well as a bit of black cherry. The cherry fades fast all while the coffee and slightly bitter roasted malt tastes get stronger. All the while some char and smoke come to the tongue, as well as some light cola like flavors. Toward the end, there is a bit of an increase in the cherry and even more coffee, leaving one with a moderately bitter and roasty, lightly sweetened but somewhat malty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thicker for an only 4.27 % brew, while the carbonation is more moderate in nature. For the dark and roasty flavors as well as for the slightly bitter nature of the brew the feel is good and makes for a nice sipper.
Overall – They pack a good amount of flavor in a 4.27 % abv. brew. Slightly more bitter in nature, and not too much cherry, but overall easy drinking and enjoyable.
