Served on tap in a short pour pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a hazy orange-brown color with a one finger head of off-white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a wheaty and dark fruit smell of plum and raisin. Along with these smells comes notes of banana and yeast as well as some aromas of a orange and orange peel.
Taste – The taste begins with a very bready flavor mixed with some notes of orange and clove. Along with these flavors is some orange and lemon citrus as well as a little bit of a light dark fruit flavor. As the taste advances the clove is joined by some coriander all while some yeastiness and graininess comes to the tongue. At the same time the sweetness fades a bit all while some light grapefruit hop like flavors as well as notes of lemongrass arrive on the scene. The bready and malty body seems to thicken as the taste advances, leaving one with a rather malty, and more strong ale/barleywine like taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is lower. For the tastes nad the big abv. the feel is rather appropriate and makes for a more slow sipper.
Overall – Ahh. Nothing all that too impressive. Not really a standard quad, but more like a mishmash of a quad, barleywine, and strong ale. Interesting, but not really anything to pine over.
