A- Pours a dark brown color with a reasonably mellow looking carbonation. The lacing is also pretty mellow, only showcasing small artwork around the inside of the glass and slowly gravitating back into the liquid goodness.
S- Whoa this is hugely heavy in wood, bourbon/rum/rye booziness....like I'm enjoying a spirit on ice! Aside from this, I am getting intense dark fruits (raisin, prune, fig), nuances of aged tawny port, Madeira, Tootsie Roll chocolate, blackened toffee, burnt brown sugar, and now I am really understanding the aroma as it warms.....definite Dark Tequila and/or Mescal liquor....definitely interesting and unique among the general population of stouts out there! Hope to enjoy it again at some point.
T- This doesn't follow the aromas as closely as I thought it might have been....sweet bourbon flavors take over from the aforementioned tequila/mescal that is noted in the aromas. Woodsy charred barrel is pronounced, along with fine flavors of dark chocolate, Rum, toffee/caramel richness, vanilla bean pod, coffee cream infused French press coffee, again with the Tawny Port, raisin/prune/fig fruitiness and a finish that is somewhat dry and with a muted hop presence.....overall this is very intense and flavorful!
M/O- The mouthfeel is what I would call medium-full and the carbonation is reasonably subtle, with some mild zest on the palate, but it isn't overwhelming. The drinkability factor is a bit of a conundrum.....on one hand this is quite enjoyable and makes a great sipping stout, with plenty of aroma and flavor to ponder over, but it is quite intense at the same time and would be a better brew to share with a good friend....this is a good problem to have I guess. Overall I quite like this and wish it was available still....glad I am getting to enjoy a brew that is out of stock and no longer in production!
