Can purchased and drank at Indian Ladder Farmstead Cidery & Brewery in Altamont, NY.
This one pours a slightly dark orange color, with a slight haze to it, and a big head, and lots of lacing. It unfortunately looks a bit malty.
There's a dark breadiness on the nose, with some husk and grain, some grapefruit, and astringent pine.
I really do like what ILFCB is doing over here, but they don't seem to have a good handle on IPAs. Maybe it's the NY state hops or malts, I don't really know. They do seem to do lagers and lighter beers much better. This is very malty, with a crusty and doughy malt character. It feels a bit underattenuated, with a slick sweetness. There's some decent grapefruit character, but it's also overtaken by a grainy and piney bitterness on the back end.
This is medium bodied, and a bit astringent on the back end. I drank it easily enough, but it wasn't incredibly pleasant going down.
This is absoltely a worthwhile endeavor and cause, and I really like the ILFCB space and theme, but this unfortunately wasn't a very good beer.
