The first of their barrel program!
Aged 6 months in a wine barrel. Is it really more of a stock ale/old ale? Historically I think that would be correct, but it's not like a modern old ale.
Pours a nice head, but only a thin ring of retention. Very slight haze to the chestnut colour.
The aroma is different, caramel and roasted nut, but some fruity esters as well. Definitely some alcohol here too.
Certainly oak in the flavour, caramel, roasted nut, field berry, some grape tannins that don't really meld. Restrained bitterness allows some sweetness to come through. Balanced, but I'm not diggin the flavours.
Body seems a little thin and dry.
