Poured into a snifter, the appearance was a nice looking rustic copper colored soft chill haze with a nice finger and a half's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Some light concave lace swept around the glass nicely.
The aroma had a nice sweet rye to woody character slyly moving into the semi-floral rye sweetness of this blend. Some smooth caramel malts play with some fruity tangerines to sweet oranges and moved into a slight noticeable booziness.
The flavor yields to the sweetness initially and develops a soothingly sweet woody to floral and slightly spiciness coming from the rye rolling over some "honey-ed biscuits." Slight tickle of the rye, honey, citrus and tangerines in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a clever sipping quality about it. Though the 9.2% was noticeable only as I was sipping it, it wasn't felt so much along with no boozy flaw as sometimes happens in some of these barrel aged burdens. This isn't a burden, but a very nicely done American Strong ale well worthy of having again.

Brewed, barrel-aged, and bottled in Tunbridge, VT.
500 ml. bottle with label stating:
"A strong ale brewed with rye, barley, oats, wheat, and Vermont honey. Its citrus aroma comes from tangelos, Cara Cara oranges, grapefruit, Japanese yuzu juice and six hop varieties. Aged for a half-year in High West Distillery rye whiskey barrels."
Moderate pour yields a one plus inch white head over an amber body with nice lacing which recedes down to a ring after a few minutes. Head comes back with a swirl or two. Nose of all types of citrus including tangelos, oranges, and grapefruit. As it warms, the aroma of mangoes comes out with a bit of the whiskey from the barrel. Taste nearly mirrors the nose with a bit of orange pith, grapefruit pith, a bit of sweetness from the honey, and sourness noticeable on the palate. Very nice carbonation and feel with a finish of the whiskey barrel. Overall, this is sort of like an American Wild Ale on steroids due to the sourness from all the attributes of citrus fruit and the 9.2% abv. Cheers!
